DENG Adel’s road of making an NBA roster has taken a different turn, with the Sudanese-Australian wing signing a partially-guaranteed deal with the Toronto Raptors.

Shams Charania of The Athletic was first to report the news, with Adel previously committed to joining the Minnesota Timberwolves, before more attractive offers came up.

The expectation for Adel, who went undrafted in 2018, is that the contract is an Exhibit 10 deal. The Exhibit 10 contract is relatively new, introduced in the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement. The best-case scenario for Adel is if he makes the Raptors’ 15-man roster, of which 14 players are already guaranteed.

The contract could be converted into a two-way deal, or Adel could be waived, meaning he could agree to join the Raptors 905 — the Raptors’ G-League affiliate — with a $50,000 bonus.

Born in what is now South Sudan, before moving to Melbourne, Adel went undrafted in June’s 2018 NBA Draft, after his junior season at the University of Louisville.

Adel, 22, played with the Houston Rockets in the NBA Summer League, averaging 8.3 points per game, in the four contests he suited up for.

In his final year as a Cardinal, Adel averaged 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, leading his team in scoring.

NBA training camps begin at the end of September.
