Belgian defender Dedryck Boyata will remain at Manchester City after signing a new two contract.

The 23-year-old made only a handful of first-team appearances last season as City secured the double, but is part of manager Manuel Pellegrini's future plans and will stay at the Etihad until 2016.

Boyata featured in just one top flight match for the Premier League champions, but played in four Capital One Cup games on the way to the final, where City secured a 3-1 win over Sunderland.

The former Belgium U21 player first arrived at City back in 2007, meaning he can be registered as a homegrown player.

City are expected to offload British trio Joleon Lescott, Micah Richards and Jack Rodwell in the summer, but must remain within the required quota.
