DANIEL Ricciardo has pledged to proudly fly West Coast colours at next week’s Russian Grand Prix, should the Eagles progress to the grand final.

Ricciardo is in Perth as he gets set to cheer on Adam Simpson’s side in his position as the club’s No.1 ticketholder.

Speaking on the Eagles Backchat podcast alongside Will Schofield and Sam Butler, the WA driver admitted he would rather be at the MCG on grand final day if the Eagles make it – but would show his support from Russia in lieu of being at the game.

“When they win – a bit of confidence here – I’ll get something in the form of an Eagle on or around me next weekend,” Ricciardo said.

“I’m in Russia when you guys are hopefully at the ‘G. I’d rather be at the ‘G, to be honest.”

Ricciardo said he got “fired up” watching West Coast games, including the tense qualifying final victory over Collingwood a fortnight ago.

“I’m a very active supporter,” he said.

“My nails tend to go. After 29 years of trying to stop picking or biting my nails, it still hasn’t worked.

“I was jacked (after the Collingwood win). As soon as it finished, my gym clothes were on and I was training. I was like, ‘I’ve got to let off some of this steam’.”

Ricciardo is currently sixth in the Formula One drivers’ standings after finishing sixth in last week’s Singapore GP.
