RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick says he isn’t worried by the Tigers’ poor away record in 2018.

The Tigers are yet to win interstate this season, with all three of their losses in 2018 coming on the road.

The Power booted seven goals to two in the second quarter setting up a significant buffer, helping Port run out 14 point winners at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

Despite the results, Hardwick isn’t fazed about their poor record outside of Victoria, as the Tigers hunt for back-to-back premierships.

“Wins away are really tough,” Hardwick said in his post-match press conference.

“I don’t think ours (interstate record) is anymore significantly bad than other teams that play away, that’s the harsh reality of the AFL game.

“We’ve played all the really good sides’ interstate.”

The Tigers have now lost to both Adelaide teams this season, as well as falling by 47 points against West Coast at Optus Stadium in Round 9.

Richmond remains in second place, but the reigning premiers can fall as low as fourth by the end of the round.

Missing 2017 Brownlow Medalist Dustin Martin, the Tigers were smashed in the contested ball, losing 187 to 153.

“Port are the highest stoppage side in the competition. They make it a contested nature, average around a 100 per game. We knew if we got up to that number we’d probably struggle,” Hardwick said.

“We’ve got (Dion) Prestia out, Dustin (Martin) out and you look at Port Adelaide, their strength is that big bodied midfielders in and around the contest. We knew if we got it up to that number it would be played on their terms — which is was tonight, so we tried to take that away from them.

“They play wide, they take the ball out of bounce, start that again. We just couldn’t get the game play that we wanted it to be played.”

Despite the result, AFL 360 co-host Gerard Whateley still believes the Tigers are the best team in the competition.

“Richmond’s best footy is still by far and away the watermark at the MCG,” Whateley said on SEN’s Crunch Time.

“They’re not a superpower, but they’re as good as we’ve got in the competition without a superpower.”
