PKHYNCHKHAN / South Korea /, 22 February. / TASS /. The Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) found Russian curler Alexander Krushelnytsky guilty of violating anti-doping rules at the Olympic Games in South Korean Pyeongchang. This was reported by the press service of the court.

As follows from the court's decision, the athlete's doping tests gave a positive result for the presence in them of the forbidden substance meldonia, and the athlete admitted this fact. "The athlete is disqualified from the Olympic tournament, the results shown by the team of Olympic athletes from Russia are canceled." The athlete is excluded from the number of participants in the Olympic Games, his accreditation is canceled, "the decision says.

Further proceedings will continue the World Curling Federation. Redistribution of medals remains with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Curling Federation.

Russian athletes in the match for bronze in the double-mixed beat the Norwegians with a score of 8: 4. IOC must transfer the bronze medals to Christine Skascien and Magnus Nedregotten before the end of the Games.

After the cancellation of the results of Krushelnytsky and Bryzgalova, the Olympic athletes from Russia will receive 12 medals of the Games-2018 (four silver and eight bronze medals).

Background

The doping tests of the Russian curling, given on February 12 and 13, gave a positive result to melodonium, which was added to the list of banned substances of the World Anti-Doping Agency on January 1, 2016. The athlete took advantage of the right to open a doping test "B", which confirmed the initial result. In a statement by the delegation of Olympic athletes from Russia, based on the results of the analysis of the "B" sample, it was noted that the amount of the substance indicates its single application, which is not typical for preparations containing meldonium.

The athlete himself said that he never used forbidden substances during a sports career, and intends to prove his own innocence in further proceedings. The Curling Federation of Russia in turn submitted an application to the Investigative Committee of Russia with a request to investigate this situation and possible involvement of unknown persons who could pour a prohibited substance into the athlete's food or water. In addition, the federation appealed to the IOC, the World Curling Federation and the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games, asking them to assist in collecting evidence. In particular, the federation intends to obtain video recordings from the cameras in Japan, where pre-Olympic team training took place, and from the Olympic Village.

On the eve of the athlete issued a statement on the refusal to hear the CAS. Formally, he acknowledged the fact of violation of anti-doping rules, since both doping tests indicated the presence of meldonia in the body. At the same time, Krushelnytsky noted that he will continue to do everything in his power to find irrefutable proof of innocence within the framework of the investigation.
