Crows' Seedsman avoids knee reconstruction

Scans have shown Adelaide winger Paul Seedsman has avoided a season-ending knee injury.

The Crows thought the 27-year-old had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in Thursday night's loss to Geelong.

But Adelaide's medical co-ordinator Steve Saunders says the scans revealed Seedsman hadn't injured his ACL.

"Follow-up examination post-game was more encouraging than initial assessments," Saunders said in a statement on Friday.

"And imaging undertaken today has proved good news for him."

Seedsman suffered "significant" knee cap and bone injury.

"We will know more as to time frames for Paul as we assess his clinical progress over the next five, seven days."

The news will be a massive relief for the ex-Collingwood dasher, who who has been restricted by various injuries to playing 90 AFL games in eight seasons.

Seedsman was hurt as the Crows lost by four goals to Geelong - their second home defeat of the season.

Adelaide slipped behind early with co-captains Taylor Walker and Rory Sloane, and then 256-gamer Bryce Gibbs, all giving away 50-metre penalties in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Geelong directly converted goals from the latter two penalties, with coach Don Pyke criticising the lack of discipline of his elder statesmen.

"It's frustrating," Pyke said post-game.

"Our first goals (against) were avoidable.

"You can't start a game by handing away three goals to the opposition, especially quality opposition like we had.

"That is disappointing. That just puts you on the back foot."
