Crows move to lock in Victorian young gun
ADELAIDE has initiated discussions on a multi-year extension for boom defender Tom Doedee.
The Crows and Doedee's management have held talks in recent weeks as the club looks to lock away one of its brightest young stars from the lure of a return home to Victoria.
Finishing second in this year's NAB AFL Rising Star, the 21-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut season, playing 20 games across half-back.
Doedee's current contract expires at the end of 2019.
Forced to wait until his third season at West Lakes to break into the senior team, Doedee assumed the role vacated by now-Melbourne defender Jake Lever.
Doedee's pending extension is set to provide the Crows a boost having lost a number of quality young players in recent years.
Swingman Mitch McGovern is set to follow Lever, Jack Gunston, Charlie Cameron, Phil Davis, Kurt Tippett, Patrick Dangerfield in leaving before the age of 25.
Doedee was selected at pick 17 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.
