West Indies have named Britney Cooper as the replacement for Deandra Dottin for the Ireland and England tours, Cricket West Indies announced on Monday (May 20).

Dottin sustained "damage" to her right shoulder, according to the board statement, and will require corrective surgery, ruling her out of competitive cricket for "upcoming months". No timeline has been set for her return.

Dottin's unavailability will be a big blow to the tourists. Her recent form saw Dottin climb up to the No. 1 spot in the T20I rankings for all-rounders, followed closely by her captain Stafanie Taylor. Dottin also occupies the second rank in the T20I batters' rankings. She was adjudged Player of the Series during West Indies' tour of Pakistan in February earlier this year, scoring 158 runs and taking three wickets.

Cooper, who has played 40 ODIs and 59 T20Is but failed to impress during the ICC Women's World T20 at home last November, earned her spot back in the side on the basis of consistent performances in the domestic CWI Women's Championships in Guyana in March.

"Obviously it's very unfortunate with Deandra having to do surgery. She is certainly a key player for us and we wish her a speedy recovery to come back and win matches for the West Indies. Britney has previous experience at the international level and we believe she will make a positive contribution," the CWI interim Chairman of Selectors Robert Haynes said.

West Indies have been in a preparation camp in Antigua from May 6 to 21. Taylor, vice-captain Hayley Matthews and Shakera Selman didn't feature due to their participation in the 2019 Women's T20 Challenge in India.

The three ICC Women's Championship ODIs - where second-placed England will take on Windies, who have only 11 points so far from 12 games - are scheduled for June 6, 9 and 13 and will be followed by three T20Is on June 18, 21 and 25. Before England, Windies will make a pit stop in Ireland where they'll play three T20Is against the hosts on May 26, 28 and 29.
