Subiaco premiership ruckman Zac Clarke has officially joined Essendon for season 2019.

The Bombers announced they had acquired the former Fremantle player on Saturday, the first day of the new AFL pre-season supplemental selection period.

The new recruiting rule introduced by the league allows players previously on an AFL list or overlooked in the draft to join the club of their choice as a rookie.

Clarke joins the Bombers on a one-year deal after a starring role in the ruck for this year’s unbeaten WAFL premiers.

General manager of list and recruiting Adrian Dodoro said Clarke would be an asset for Essendon, who are in serious need of ruck depth.

“We feel he has a lot to offer as an experienced ruckman who also has the ability to push forward if needed,” Dodoro told the club’s website.

“Zac will be able to give us some additional ruck depth and we’re hopeful he can push for senior selection early next season.”
