Chelsea & Man City told to look elsewhere as Bonucci sale ruled out
Leonardo Bonucci is a reported target for Chelsea and Manchester City, but his agent says the AC Milan defender is going nowhere.
Goal recently revealed that the Italy international defender is already considering a move away from the San Siro after enduring a torrid start to his time with the Rossoneri.
A €40 million deal took the 30-year-old centre-half to Milan from Juventus over the summer, but an ambitious project has fallen flat as several big-money buys have failed to deliver.
That has sparked further transfer talk, with Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and City said to be long-standing admirers of Bonucci, but a January move has been ruled out for a player scratching around for form.
"Leonardo is a Milan player, and he chose to play for Milan and will continue to pursue his objectives there,” Bonucci’s representative, Alessandro Lucci, told Sky Sport Italia.
"He's a great professional, a leader, and he wants to get out of this situation and help the club reach the objectives they deserve."
Bonucci has helped Milan to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia and the last-32 of the Europa League, but they sit 11th in the Serie A table at present – 14 points adrift of the Champions League spots.
There is clearly much work to be done over the second half of the season if a campaign which promised so much is to be salvaged.
Keeping Bonucci will be key to those plans, with the highly-rated defender having conceded that he sees similarities between his start at Milan and the one he made at Juventus – with that situation turned around to eventually land six Italian top-flight crowns.
He told Forza Milan magazine: "It's true, I can see a lot of similarities between the start here at Milan and my first year at Juventus.
