The multi-billion-dollar Chelsea international roadshow rolled into town in absolute opulence.

No one should be surprised.

When you are the seventh-most valuable soccer club in the world, worth an estimated $2.8 billion according to the latest Forbes list, you can afford to do things in style.

Twenty-five players touched down in Perth on Thursday night in their chartered Crystal Luxury Air 777-200LR, after a 16-hour non-stop flight from Gatwick.

The cost of chartering the jetliner, touted as the most luxurious private aircraft for the world’s richest high-flyers, is believed to be at least $600,000.

Players were cosseted by the crew of 20, including “Crystal Skye butlers” and their own chef.

With the players came a 60-strong entourage to oversee their every need. There are coaches, high performance staff, analysts, strength and conditioning members, medicos, analysts, physios, masseurs, a media team including the Chelsea TV unit, liaison officers, administration staff and more.

And not for Chelsea the frustration of queues, luggage pick-up, customs and immigration upon arrival — officers and security went aboard the luxury jet to clear them.

They were then whisked off the tarmac in a fleet of cars and buses to their luxury hotel, the Crown Towers.

Welcome to the world of big-time soccer where the figures are astonishing.

Chelsea have an estimated wage bill of about $300 million, the third highest in the English Premier League, behind only the two Manchester clubs.

In comparison Perth Glory have an A-League salary cap of just $3.1 million, with an extra $1 million top-up available for two marquee players.

And they fly economy, usually taking 16 players, two coaches, a physio, a strength and conditioning member and logistics manager — and they share hotel rooms.

Chelsea midfield star Eden Hazard earns about $400,000 a week. It is roughly what Glory’s main man Diego Castro earns a season for his time in WA.

Chelsea signed a record-breaking $106 million kit sponsorship deal with Nike in 2016, the biggest in the club’s history.

It followed the $71 million annual deal with Japanese tyre company Yokohama.

Glory owner Tony Sage estimates his club to be worth $15-$17 million.

“The comparison between the two is unbelievable,” Sage said.

“We’ve got 11 in our administration and our coaching staff.

“It’s mouth-watering when you look at the names that are here. It’s incredible. Everyone is super excited about this game.

“It’s bigger hyped than I thought it would be given that it’s in the middle of the AFL season. I have just one disappointment, that the owner (Russian Roman Abramovich) could not come over. He said after watching the World Cup he has to get back to business.

“It’s a shame because he has never been to Australia.”

Chelsea fly out at midnight, straight after Monday’s game.
