Cardinals' Yadier Molina: 'Three more years. That's it'
Yadier Molina is not quite ready to call it a career, but he does know when he'll retire.
The Cardinals catcher said Monday he will retire when his current contract expires at the end of the 2020 season.
"Three more years," Molina said, via MLB.com. "That's it.
"I can't wait to grab that [World Series] trophy in November or October," Molina added. "Three more championships."
Molina, 35, has been one of the most consistent backstops in all of baseball. The eight-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner has helped the Cardinals reach four World Series, winning it all in 2006 and 2011. The Cardinals gave the four-time Platinum Glove Award winner a three-year, $60 million extension last April.
A career .284 hitter, Molina has 126 home runs and 785 RBIs over 14 seasons — all with the Cardinals. One of the better clutch hitters in baseball, Molina's best season was in 2013 when he hit a career-best .319 with 12 homers and 80 RBIs while finishing third in MVP voting. He was named to the All-Star Game that season and won a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award.
