PKHYNCHKHAN / South Korea /, 20 February. Canadian figure skaters Tessa Virchu and Scott Moir won gold in ice dancing at the Olympic Games in South Korean Pyeongchang. By the sum of short and free programs athletes received 206.07 points, which is a world record.

The silver was won by the French Gabriela Papadakis and Guillaume Siziron (205,28), who set the world record in free dance (123.35), bronze - the Americans Maya and Alex Shibutani (192.59).

Russians Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitriy Solovyev took the fifth place (186.92), Tiffany Zagorski and Jonathan Gureyro - the 13th (162.24).

Shortly before the performances of Virch and Moira, the world record in free dance and the sum of programs was established by Papadakis and Siseron. Canadians were able to surpass the achievement of rivals in the amount of programs, but the world record in free dance was left for the French duet. Earlier at the Olympics in Pyeongchang Virchu and Moir updated their own world record in short dance (83,67).

Virchu and Moir have been performing together since 1997, the gold of the Games in Pyeongchang became the third for Canadians. Previously, they won ice dancing at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and won gold in the team tournament in Pyeongchang. In addition, 28-year-old Virchu and 30-year-old Moira have three gold world championships and a victory in the Grand Prix final (season-2016/17).

This gold was the eighth for the national team of Canada at the current Games, the team currently has 19 medals (eight gold, five silver, six bronze). Russians at the Games in Pyeongchang act in a truncated team under the Olympic flag because of the suspension of the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee. The Olympics will end on February 25.
