Cricket Australia have responded to India coach Ravi Shastri's request for more warm-up games in the lead-up to the Domain Test series between the two nations this summer.

India only had one practice match ahead of their recent Test series against England - which they lost 4-1 - and Shastri believes his side would be better prepared to tackle Australia if more red-ball cricket was scheduled prior to the first Test in Adelaide starting on December 6.

At this stage Australia and India are scheduled to play three Gillette T20 contests prior to the Adelaide Test and Shastri said India had "requested a couple of (warm-up) games in Australia before the Test series commenced".

But CA said on Friday they had yet to receive any official application from the BCCI for more warm-up games to be played heading into the four-match Test series, although they were open to the idea should such a request be submitted.

"We are happy to discuss options with the BCCI, but we have not received any formal notification to increase the number of tour matches prior to their series commencing in Australia," a Cricket Australia spokesperson said.

Shastri also questioned whether there was time for any extra matches to take place in an already hectic schedule this summer, with CA hosting South Africa for a tour match against a PM’s XI, three ODIs and one T20 in the lead-up to the India series.

Likewise, India will host the West Indies during October and early November for two Tests, five ODIs and three T20s that are scheduled to finish on November 11.

Despite the scheduling headache, Shastri has no doubt that any extra red-ball matches ahead of the Australia Test series would be beneficial to his side.

"Why would we be? You can see the results (in England). Every time after the second Test we have improved. You can still get better. But why can't we be in that position in the first Test match?" Shastri told ESPN.

"If you have two or three games against weaker sides we don't mind because it is a game. But when you have a schedule as tight as this ... there is very little you can do. These are things that have been approved earlier."

India were beaten 2-0 in the four-Test series on their last tour of Australia in 2014-15.
