Burglars hit Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig's $1.8 million Sherman Oaks home last week and made away with at least $170,000 worth of jewelry and other items, the Los Angeles Police Department said Tuesday ().

The break-in happened sometime during the week of Feb. 27 and the LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division is investigating, police spokeswoman Lillian Preciado said, adding that the dollar value of the stolen property could grow.

Preciado said it wasn't clear if Puig's home was targeted. He is in Arizona at spring training, and no one was home at the time of the alleged burglary.

The Times noted that the burglary is the most recent in a stream of break-ins at celebrity homes across L.A., though LAPD investigators haven't said whether they think the crimes are connected.

Last month, thieves stole a safe containing $2 million in jewelry from singer Alanis Morissette's home in Brentwood. Also in recent months, former NBA player and current TV analyst in Tarzana was broken into, as was hip-hop star Nicki Minaj's Westside home, and burglars are estimated to have stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry, police said.
