Lachie Neale believes Brisbane will win its next premiership before Fremantle wins its first.

The 25-year-old, who made the move from the Dockers to the Lions at the end of last season, made the bold claim while speaking to Fox Footy during pre-season promotional work this week.

Asked if the Lions would lift the cup before Freo, Neale’s response was definitive.

“Yes, or I wouldn’t have come,” he said.

“Freo have brought in some really quality players and I hope they go well.

“But I do think Brisbane will be better.”

While not unexpected given the circumstances, the claim has shades of a similar one made by Adam Treloar after he rebuffed Richmond’s approach to sign with Collingwood in 2015.

“A lot of people might think I'm silly because Richmond have a lot of good players but I think Collingwood have a better list, a younger list, who in a couple of years time can hopefully win a premiership,” Treloar said.

The comments came back to bite Treloar when the Tigers lifted the premiership cup two years later.

Neale did not take it well when the similarity was pointed out on Twitter:

The Lions are paying $4.25 to make the top eight next season, slightly behind the Dockers at $4 with TABTouch.

Both sides are paying $67 to win the flag.
