A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged over a frightening home invasion at Essendon great James Hird’s Toorak mansion.

Police arrested the boy following the aggravated burglary at Hird’s home last Friday.

A silver Audi Q7 station wagon and some electrical items were stolen from the property at some stage between midnight and 1.30am on May 18.

The boy has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft, theft of motor vehicle and handle stolen goods.

He will face a children’s court at a later date.

Speaking on the day of the home invasion Hird revealed he, his wife Tania and their four children had been asleep while their house was broken into.

“We were at home (and) someone came and broke into the house, stole the keys to the car,” he said.

“It was a bit scary. We woke up this morning there was no car; not ideal but luckily no one was hurt.

“We were asleep upstairs. My son woke up and saw the door open and closed it, it’s all good — no one is hurt

“We just have to find our car.”
