Fans of England and Wales attending the Euro 2016 clash between the two home nations in Lens will not be allowed to drink alcohol on the city's streets on the day of the match. French authorities have imposed a 24-hour alcohol ban between 6am on matchday (Thursday 16 June) and 6am the following day. There will be three other matches held in Lens during the entire tournament, all of which have also been given the same restriction. Cars entering Lens on the day of the match will be searched by the authorities to prevent alcohol from being smuggled in.

Fans will only be allowed to consume alcohol in Lens' designated fan zone. British police have advised fans without tickets not to travel to the stadium for the match. Those who do make the short journey across the Channel are being told to watch the game at one of the many registered fan zones in the country.

Between 350,000 and 500,000 people are expected to make the trip from the UK to France during the tournament which gets underway on 10 June. England and Wales will play Russia and Slovakia respectively in their opening Group B matches on Saturday 11 June before meeting five days later in Lens.
