CARLTON has informed contracted forward Levi Casboult it is open to trading him, should he find a club of choice ahead of next season.

As Mitch McGovern's move to Ikon Park edges closer to being finalised, Casboult is set to be in a fight to earn a berth in Carlton's best 22 in 2019.

With the emergence of Harry McKay and Tom De Koning alongside young gun Charlie Curnow this year, the Blues have told Casboult he is free to look elsewhere.

"They're happy to entertain something," Casboult's agent Anthony McConville told AFL.com.au.

"Right now I'd say he's more likely to be staying than going, but we'll know more in the next few weeks."

Casboult managed just 10 games this season, kicking only 12 goals, having broken a rib midway through the year and then dislocating his finger upon returning to the team.

The 28-year-old spent four of the last five weeks of the season with the Northern Blues, before missing the final game of the year through a VFL suspension for a dangerous tackle.

He remains tied to the Blues for 2019, having signed a two-year extension in 2017.

Casboult's potential departure would add to the club's trend of losing former leading goalkickers, with six of the past eight winners not on the club's list going into next season.

From 2009, previous winners Brendan Fevola (2009), Eddie Betts (2010, 2012), Jeff Garlett (2013) and Jarrad Waite (2014) sought trades, while Andrejs Everitt (2015) was delisted and Matthew Wright (2016) retired at the end of this season.

Casboult was Carlton's leading goalkicker in 2017, while emerging star Curnow won the club's tally in 2018 with 34 majors.
