Sintayehu Yinesu of Ethiopia outpaced thousands of marathoners on Saturday to emerge winner of the 2019 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Yinesu breast the tape in a time of 2.17.20 to grab the ultimate prize of USD 50,000.

Joshua Kipkorir of Kenya came second with a time record of 2.18.16 to go home with USD 30,000 while William Yegon, also of Kenya, came third with a record of 2.19.04.

Goyet Gideon of Nigeria came 14th and first from the nation to finish the race.

Meleka Dinke, still from Ethiopia, was the first female to finish the race. She ended at 2:48:03.

The race kicked off in the early hours of the day from the National Stadium in Surulere and ended at the Eko Atlantic City. This is the fourth edition of the race.
