One of basketball's most famous - or infamous - families may be headed down under, with LaMelo Ball weighing up a stint in either the NBL or in China next season.

17-year-old Ball, the youngest member of the family that includes LA Lakers guard Lonzo and 20-year-old prospect LiAngelo, has often been overshadowed by the antics of his outspoken father Lavar.

But there's no doubting his talent, and it could be heading to Australia, if his dad is to be believed.

Speaking during the broadcast of the Big Baller Brand All American Game, the Ball patriarch said his youngest son would be heading to either Australia or China.

“With college, I already knew what they were about to do. ‘We’re going to investigate, we’re not going to let him play until we let him play, LaVar. We’re not going to let you do all that big mouth talking and then we’re going to hold him back and a whole year goes by'," Ball said.

"The G League... I’m not going to let no 28 or 29-year-old dudes tee off on him.

“He’s trying to make a name for himself, so he’s definitely going overseas to either Australia or China. One of the two.”

Sydney has been touted as a potential destination should the youngest Ball decide to head to our shores, given Kings star Andrew Bogut’s connection to Lonzo Ball. The pair were on the Lakers roster together in Lonzo’s rookie NBA campaign in 2017-18.

Lavar Ball has attracted plenty of controversy since rising to fame through his sons' talent, notably boasting that he could defeat Michael Jordan in a game of one-on-one.
