TASS, 24 February. Biathletes of the US team are boycotting the final in the current season of the World Cup in Tyumen. This is stated in the statement of the US Biathlon Federation, the text of which leads the portal Inside the Games.

During the Games in Pyeongchang, the Executive Committee of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) held a meeting at which it was decided to keep the March World Cup in Tyumen this season. This decision was not liked by a number of biathlonists.

"The recent decision of the IBU to keep the World Cup stage in Tyumen is completely unacceptable," the statement said. "Based on the support of clean sport and our own security, we will not be able to participate in these competitions." In November, the Norwegian television channel NRK reported that Canadians plan to withdraw from the stage in Tyumen.

The best of Americans, Tim Burke, takes 29th place in the overall standings of the World Cup. In the women's standings, the best in the US team, Susan Dunkley, is in 39th place. In the current season, American biathlonists never rose to the podium at the World Cup stages, as well as at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

The stage in Tyumen will be held from 22 to 25 March. IBU also kept in Russia the stages of the IBU Cup in Uvat and Khanty-Mansiysk.

In December 2016, after the release of the second part of the report of the independent commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency under the leadership of Richard McLaren, a number of federations refused to hold international competitions in Russia. This led to the postponement of the final stage of the World Cup in speed skating in Chelyabinsk, the World Cup in biathlon in Tyumen and the World Youth Championships in the Island of the Pskov region, the World Bobsleigh and Skeleton Championship in Sochi, and the World Cup in skiing in Tyumen.
