When it rains it pours for Patrice Bergeron.

Less than two weeks after scoring four goals against Carolina, the NHL's top defensive forward registered another hat trick in Boston's 5-2 win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.

Bergeron had failed to score in any of the Bruins' four games following his offensive outburst against the Hurricanes, but regained his scoring touch in the first period by wristing the puck past Jaroslav Halak to tie the game at 1-1.

In the second period, Bergeron gave way to Ryan Spooner, who scored in his third consecutive game to give Boston its first lead of the night. Bergeron extended the Bruins' lead to 3-1 on the power play four minutes later when he was the quickest to react to a blocked shot from the point and swept a bouncing puck past Halak's glove.

Bergeron and the Bruins saved the best for last though, as the 32-year-old completed his hat trick in the final period. With the score still 3-1, Bergeron collected Brad Marchand's diving backhand pass, spun around and slotted his wrist shot past Halak.

Bergeron is the first Bruin to score two hat tricks within a span of six games since Rick Tocchet did so in a five-game span in March 1996. He also became the fourth player in the NHL this season to record multiple hat tricks, joining Alexander Ovechkin (3), John Tavares (2) and Gabriel Landeskog (2). Ovechkin scored back-to-back hat tricks to begin the season back in October.

With the win, the Bruins extended their point streak to 15 consecutive games (11-0-4). Boston will look to keep that run going when it faces the Montreal Canadiens Saturday at Bell Centre
