Dimuth Karunaratne, the Sri Lanka Test captain, was arrested and then released on bail after being involved in an accident, according to reports on Sunday (March 31).

According to the Borella police, Karunaratne was under the influence of alcohol when he was driving, and collided with a three-wheeler at around 5:40 am local time.

Karunaratne will now appear in court on Monday as the police conduct further investigations. The police also confirmed that the driver of the three-wheeler suffered only minor injuries.

"Dimuth is undergoing due legal procedures with regard to the incident," Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement. "In the meantime, Sri Lanka Cricket will also follow the due process as per his 'Player Contractual Obligation' with the organisation and conduct an inquiry in order to take necessary action."

Karunaratne is being considered for the World Cup squad and has recently led Sri Lanka to a historic first-ever Test series win in South Africa.
