VfL Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost has told German newspaper Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung that he expects to stay at the German club this summer.

The 6ft 4in striker has been linked with a move to the Premier League but, despite missing most of last season due to injury, he is now set to stay at the Volkswagen Arena and push for UEFA Champions League qualification.

The Netherlands hitman, who moved to Germany in a £6.4million switch from Heerenveen, made only 13 appearances last season, scoring four goals.

"As things look at the moment, I am going to stay at VfL Wolfsburg," said the 25-year-old.

"I have spoken to the manager Dieter Hecking and general manager Klaus Allofs, and they told me I was unlucky last season.

"I feel I could have a great future here. VfL Wolfsburg is not a small club, our aim is to qualify for the UEFA Champions league next season and to do that we need good players."
