SIX months after the controversial ball tampering scandal that cost him his captaincy and place in the team, former Australian Test cricketer Steve Smith and his long-time partner Dani Willis have tied the knot.

Smith and his bride exchanged vows in Berrima in the Southern Highlands, under a pastel pink floral arch, on Saturday afternoon.

It was a sports star-studded event with guests including teammates Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Pat Cummins and Moses Henriques in attendance.

The unseasonably warm spring day and clear blue sky made the perfect backdrop for the nuptials, which were one year in the making.

A big hint the wedding was about to take place was the fact Willis, a law student, held two hens parties in recent months -- one in Las Vegas and one in Sydney.

Her second hens night took place at Chin Chin last month, alongside girlfriends including Nathan Lyon’s ex-partner Mel Waring.

Both Willis and Smith have laid relatively low since the career threatening scandal took place while the national team was on tour in South Africa in March.

After his teary press conference, the champion batsman jetted to the United States to escape the spotlight.

Two months later was he was sighted in an Irish bar in New York named Nancy Whisky Pub.

At the time an onlooker said, "It was an absolute shock to see the former Aussie cricket captain all by himself. He looked quite sad and lonely, and it’s a good thing he had his phone or he’s have had no contact with anyone."

Smith popped the question to Willis on top of the famous Rockerfeller Centre in New York last year, before his controversial 12-month ban for ball tampering.
