Avalanche’s 10-game winning streak snapped with loss to Canadiens
The Colorado Avalanche’s 10-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night.
The Avalanche fell 4-2 to the Montreal Canadiens on the road at Bell Centre. The loss was Colorado’s first since it was topped 3-1 by the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 27. The streak was the second-longest in Avalanche franchise history.
After a scoreless first period, Nicolas Deslauriers gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead when he corralled a blocked shot and sent the puck past Colorado goalie Jonathan Bernier.
Less than three minutes later, Alex Galchenyuk scored his 12th goal of the season to put Montreal ahead 2-0.
Jonathan Drouin increased the Canadiens’ lead to 3-0 with 7:24 to play, before Nathan MacKinnon found the back of the net for Colorado’s first score. The goal was his 24th in 2017-18.
Brendan Gallagher scored on an empty net to seal the win for Montreal and Colorado’s J.T. Compher followed with a goal in the game’s final seconds.
The loss dropped the Avalanche’s record to 27-17-3 and it’s currently in 5th place of the Central Division standings. Bernier had won his last nine games in net for Colorado prior to Tuesday. The Avalanche won a team-record 12 straight games from Jan. 10 to Feb. 7, 1999.
