Australia have opted for an all-out pace attack in the first-ever men's international on the Gold Coast, against South Africa at Metricon Stadium.

The Aussies won the toss and will bowl first against the Proteas, with Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar the two players left out of the final XI.

The match has been reduced to 10 overs per side after heavy rain delayed the start.

Perth Scorchers trio Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye will lead the pace attack alongside Gold Coast local Billy Stanlake.

The match looms as another chance for Chris Lynn to make a long-awaited splash on the international stage and replicate the sort of form that has made him one of the biggest drawcards of the KFC Big Bash League.

Lynn returned to the ODI team for the first time in almost two years during the recent three-match series against the Proteas, returning scores of 15, 44 and 0. Prior to that, he was in the UAE with Australia's T20I side, and did not pass 20 from four innings.

The 28-year-old has now played 16 white-ball innings for Australia (four ODI, 12 T20I) and has not reached 50.

"Personally I feel like I'm in a good space – I'm hitting the ball well," he said on Friday.

"But that's why it's international cricket, it's the best cricket in the world and if you don't rock up with your A-game, then you're going to get sorted out, and South Africa have certainly been on top of their A-game.

"I still want to prove my point in (both international and) domestic cricket – every time you step out onto the ground you want to do as best as you possibly can.

"I still feel I've got a lot to offer in international cricket. The dominoes haven't lined up yet but I think it's not far off."
