Belgian eighth seed David Goffin shocked top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 to reach the Moselle Open semi-finals in Metz.

Two-time Metz champion Tsonga dominated the first set, hitting five aces and converting both of his break points.

The players traded breaks in the third set before the Frenchman saved two break points at 15-40 down in the 11th game. But Goffin seized his next opportunity for a break before serving out victory on his second match point.

Goffin won his only career title to date in Kitzbuehel, Austria in August.

Goffin will face Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff in the last four, Struff advancing after third-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber retired when trailing 5-0 after just 20 minutes.

French second seed Gael Monfils had little trouble in reaching the last four, seeing off seventh seed Jerzy Janowicz of Poland 6-3 6-4.

But the home support was denied an all-French semi-final on Saturday as Portugal's sixth seed Joao Sousa battled past veteran Paul-Henri Mathieu 3-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4) in the fourth quarter-final.
