Aston Villa owner Tony Xia claims he has rejected a bid of £25 million for Jordan Amavi, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool.

The highly rated left-back joined Villa for around £9m from Nice last season but could not help his team escape relegation from the Premier League due to a knee injury that ended his campaign in November.

Responding to a tweet about an article in La Provence linking him to the French club, however, Xia stated that he had already turned down an offer worth far more than the £10m price tag touted in the media.

"Don't bother reading this," he said. "I can tell [you] we have rejected an offer of £25m for Jordan Amavi. He will grow bigger at Aston Villa!"

Amavi, a 22-year-old former France Under-21 international, has made 17 league appearances for Villa this season.

Steve Bruce's side sit 10th in the second tier on the back of a poor start to the campaign that saw previous manager Roberto Di Matteo sacked after just 12 matches.
