AXED Fremantle defender Cameron Sutcliffe could receive an AFL lifeline after he was flown into Sydney for a medical on Friday.

According to AFL.com.au, Sutcliffe and former Tiger Jacob Townsend met with Swans coach John Longmire ahead of the delisted free agency period, which starts on Thursday.

Sutcliffe played 104 games for Fremantle before he was cut last week, alongside teammates Tommy Sheridan, Brady Grey and rookie Luke Strnadica.

The 26-year-old has also been in contact with his original SANFL club, Woodville-West Torrens, who said they were hopeful of signing Sutcliffe ahead of next year.

At his best an accountable defender and hard-running link-up player, Sutcliffe managed just four AFL games this season as Fremantle poured time into developing their young list.

Sutcliffe played a key role in Peel Thunder’s 2017 premiership season and was part of the Dockers’ losing 2013 Grand Final side.
