An Adelaide women's team made history in the SACA Premier Cricket competition on Sunday, hammering a remarkable 3-596 from 50 overs.

The enormous total, which is believed to be a world record, was made by Northern Districts against Port Adelaide, who were then bowled out for 25, with only eight players batting.

Four Northern Districts players, including a trio of South Australia Scorpions players in Tegan McPharlin (136 off 80 balls), Tabby Saville (120 off 56) and Sam Betts (124no off 71), as well as 15-year-old Darcie Brown (117no off 84), all made hundreds.

"It's pretty unreal to make a total like that," McPharlin told the ABC. "At the time, we weren't chasing any records or trying to set any benchmarks in that way. We were just playing cricket shots.

"The runs just kept piling on.

"There were only three sixes hit for the entire day for us.

"It just shows that we were willing to run between the wickets and hit along the ground and actually play proper cricket."

Between the five batters, 64 fours were hit – equating to one ever 4.7 deliveries.

They were helped along by an understrength Port side bowling 75 wides and missing Australia leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington.

The total is 100 runs clear of the men's List A world record of 4-496, made by Surrey against Gloucestershire at The Oval in 2007, while in June, New Zealand's women's team tallied 4-490 against Ireland in an ODI in Dublin.

Port has struggled to compete in the Statewide Super Women's First Grade competition this season, having conceded 415 against Southern Districts the previous week.

"We're clearly understrength," Port Adelaide cricket director Dean Sayers todl News Ltd.

"We're playing some youngsters who aren't up to A-grade level.

"But we're still pretty positive and trying to recruit."
