Rupa Gurunath, daughter of N Srinivasan, has been appointed unopposed as President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. The state association made the announcement following its 87th Annual General Meeting in Chennai. TNCA also appointed six other office bearers, a nine-member apex council, a governing council including an ombudsman, ethics officer and a cricket advisory committee as per the new constitution based on the Lodha recommendations.

"I am happy to become the first woman president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. The TNCA has been a professionally run State Association, which has a long history and headed by eminent personalities. My immediate priorities are to finalise the Lease Agreement with the Government and opening the three stands.

"Of course TNCA has zero tolerance for any form of corruption and TNCA will take appropriate action on any such issues. We shall continue to provide all necessary amenities and any other requirements for the players to perform at their best and look forward to improve their performances in all forms of Cricket.

Rupa joins newly elected Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jayadev Shah as relatives of disqualified former administrators taking over roles formerly held by their parents, N Srinivasan and Niranjan Shah respectively. The two septuagenarians stood disqualified as per Lodha recommendations which put an upper limit on the age of administrators.

Incidentally, Rupa's husband, Gurunath Meiyappan, was handed a life ban from all cricket involvement by the Supreme Court of India after being implicated in the 2013 spot fixing scandal. However, there were no regulations that deny family members of those accused or disqualified to stand for elections.

The Lodha committee was setup by the apex court of India in January 2015 to pronounce the quantum of punishment for those found guilty by the Mudgal report. In addition to pronouncing the punitive measures for perpetrators, the top court of law empowered the committee to recommend changes in the administration of BCCI, most of which were ratified by the Supreme Court, which also appointed a Committee of Administrators to ensure that BCCI and its member associations implemented into its new constitution.

State associations have been given until October 4 - postponed from September 28 - to complete their respective elections. The BCCI elections will take place on October 23.
