It seems only fitting the return of No. 12 would be announced on Dec. 12.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday night that he's been medically cleared to play.

Rodgers, whose post was shared by the Packers official Twitter account, is set to practice Wednesday as Green Bay's No. 1 quarterback and should start Sunday in Carolina.

Rodgers has been out since Oct. 15, when he broke his right collarbone during the second offensive series of a 23-10 loss to the Vikings. Brett Hundley stepped in and the Packers (7-6) have gone 3-5 since. The Packers placed Rodgers on injured reserve with the designation to return and he was eligible to return this week.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday he and Rodgers both felt the two-time NFL MVP was ready to return. He was cleared by the team's medical staff on Tuesday, following a thorough review of his bone scans. Rodgers had surgery on Oct. 19, when he had two plates and 13 screws inserted to help the bone heal.

Rodgers, 34, threw for 1,385 yards with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions before his injury. Sunday's game against the Panthers (9-4) has serious playoff implications and the Packers hope Rodgers can give them the boost they need to reach the playoffs for a ninth straight season.

"Arguably the best quarterback in the league, back to your team, everyone is going to get better," Packers linebacker Clay Matthews said Sunday. "Not only him being out there, but also the shot in the arm as we talk about him coming back. Watching him in practice and what he’s been able to do these past couple weeks, getting more and more reps in practice and throwing on the pads, I think it’s a good sign. I’m not going to speak on his behalf, but we sure hope he’s ready and if he is, we’re going to expect the Aaron of old
