Multiple people close to Aaron Hernandez say the late Patriots star turned convicted murderer was gay, and that internal strife about his sexuality may have been a factor in his violent behavior, an Oxygen documentary reveals (via TMZ.com).

The documentary, "Aaron Hernandez Uncovered," is set to air in two parts, on Saturday and Sunday night.

In it, Alyssa Anderson, a former girlfriend of Hernandez, said she learned he had a relationship with a man while they both attended Florida. He denied it at the time, but he “cryptically acknowledged her suspicions were true” several years later, according to TMZ.

Also, George Leontire, an openly gay lawyer who represented Hernandez, says in the documentary that he and Hernandez discussed his sexuality.

"This man clearly was gay," Leontire says. “[He] acknowledged it. Acknowledged the immense pain that it caused him."

Hernandez, who never came out publicly and was engaged to a woman, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, with whom he had a daughter, committed suicide in prison last year.
