DEADLINE Day is done and the Premier League squads are beginning to take shape ahead of the season kickoff.

While it’s been a happy summer for some, a lack of big-money signings for others has them sweating at the thought of another underwhelming campaign.

We look at all the key moves and grade every club’s transfer window.

ARSENAL

KEY INS

Bernd Leno - Bayer Leverkusen, $39.9m

Stephan Lichtsteiner - Juventus, Free

Sokratis Papastathopoulos - Borussia Dortmund, $25.4m

Lucas Torreira - Sampdoria, undisclosed

Matteo Guendouzi - Lorient, $14m

KEY OUTS
Santi Cazorla - Villarreal, free

Per Mertesacker - retired

Jack Wilshere - West Ham, free

Takuma Asano - Hannover 96, undisclosed

BEST SIGNING
The recruit of 22-year-old Uruguayan Lucas Torreira for a reported 30 million euros is perhaps the most intriguing of Unai Emery’s short reign so far. A natural ball-winning midfielder who can shield the back four, he might just provide exactly what the Gunners have been lacking.

BIGGEST LOSS
Jack Wilshire. At 26, his best years should still be ahead of him but Wilshere was already out the door before Emery arrived, joining rivals West Ham in pursuit of more regular football.

RATING: They certainly haven’t set the transfer world on fire (when have they in recent years?) but Emery looks to have strengthened astutely, with key defensive pickups set to compliment the Gunners’ stacked attack. B-

BOURNEMOUTH
KEY INS

David Brooks - Sheffield United, undisclosed

Diego Rico — Leganes, $18.9 million

KEY OUTS
Benik Afobe - Wolves, $22.1m

Baily Cargill - released

Rhoys Wiggins - retired

Adam Federici - Stoke, undisclosed

BEST SIGNING
Spanish full back Diego Rico reportedly knocked back Borussia Dortmund to join in an $18.9 million move. It’s an impressive coup for the club, though the highly-rated 25-year-old is suspended for the first three league games.

BIGGEST LOSS
Benik Afobe has been officially sold after his loan exit last season, leaving a worrying lack of depth up front in attack.

RATING: It’s been a relatively quiet summer for Bournemouth with just two notable signings. They’re reportedly closing in on some more key recruits but they’ll need to get some deals over the line if they’re to repeat or improve upon a 12th-place finish last season. D+

BIGGEST LOSS
No major losses with the 3.4 million-euros ($A5.36 million) sale of defender Connor Goldson to Rangers their biggest piece of outgoing business so far.

RATING: You can’t accuse The Seagulls of sitting still. In forking out more than $A90 million so far they’ve made a number of astute-looking signings that could prove to be bargains, while the recruits of Jahanbakhsh and Yves Bissouma are exciting. A-

BURNLEY

Josh Murphy - Norwich, undisclosed

Alex Smithies - QPR, undisclosed

Victor Camarasa - Real Betis, loan

Harry Arter - Bournemouth, loan

KEY OUTS
Greg Halford - released

Matthew Kennedy - released

BEST SIGNING
The reported $A19 million signing of winger Josh Murphy from Championship side Norwich is Cardiff’s most expensive since they were relegated in 2014. He’s highly-rated rated by manager Neil Warnock who declared him his “No.1 target”.

BIGGEST LOSS
No major losses.

RATING: The newcomers have been relatively busy but all signings so far have been from the Championship — a risky approach in their bid to achieve safety. C-

BEST SIGNING
Maurizio Sarri came to Chelsea from Napoli and brought Italy international Jorginho with him on a 50 million pound ($A88m) deal. The manager has talked up his star midfield recruit’s technical ability and “great mental speed”.

BIGGEST LOSS
No major losses so far and the Blues will be hoping it stays that way with the likes of Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Willian all linked with moves away.

RATING: Things are very much in the balance for Chelsea and moves in and out over the next two weeks could change things greatly. As it stands it’s been a relatively quiet transfer summer but they have crucially fended off interest in Hazard and Kante so far. B-

CRYSTAL PALACE
KEY INS

Vicente Guaita - Getafe, free

Cheikhou Kouyate - West Ham, undisclosed

Jacok Kwame Berkeley-Agyepong - released

Diego Cavalieri - released

Victor Fundi - released

Lee Chung-yong - released

Bakary Sako - released

Yohan Cabaye - Al-Nasr, free

BEST SIGNING
Palace beat out Porto to sign Senegal captain Cheikhou Kouyate on a four-year deal. It’s a timely boost to their engine room after the departure of Yohan Cabaye.

But new recruit Max Meyer may offer that little bit extra offensively to support Wilfried Zaha.

BIGGEST LOSS
Former France international midfielder Yohan Cabaye eft the club after unsuccessful transfer talks and has secured a lucrative move to UAE side Al Nasr.

RATING: The priority is keeping hold of star man Wilfried Zaha, which they’ve managed so far. They’re a few signings short of where they’d want to be but the recent recruitment of Senegal captain Cheikhou Kouyate is a boost. C+

BEST SIGNING
The Toffees have forked out big money to sign Brazilian midfielder Richarlison from Watford. It look a good signing but he’s got plenty to do to live up to that price tag.

BIGGEST LOSS
Argentinian defender Ramiro Funes Mori has left the club for Villarreal, with Wayne Rooney also exiting for a second time to head to the MLS.

RATING: Quality over quantity, as the arrivals of Richarlison and Digne add quality and depth to a stable squad. If they can keeping hold of star England keeper Jordan Pickford, Everton fans should be satisfied with their summer. A

BIGGEST LOSS
Championship team of the year representative Ryan Fredericks has joined West Ham after the right back’s contract expired.

RATING: Showing how it’s done for a newly-promoted side, adding geniuine quality across the park. The signings of Seri, Andre Schurrle on loan and Aleksandar Mitrovic (previously on loan from Newcastle) has them well placed for a strong return to the top flight. A

BIGGEST LOSS
Former England U21 international Tom Ince has been offloaded to Stoke City on a $A21.2 million deal.

RATING: A productive summer that has them looking strong for the campaign ahead. Added strength across the park and attacking potency through the likes of Adama Diakhaby and Ramadan Sobhi. A-

Filip Benkovic - Dinamo Zagreb, $22.5m

Rachid Ghezzal - Monaco, undisclosed

KEY OUTS
Riyad Mahrez - Manchester City, $106m

Robert Huth - released

BEST SIGNING
With Mahrez gone, England starlet James Madison has been brought in for a hefty fee to fill the attacking void. The 21-year-old is highly regarded and is coming off a 14 goal, 8 assist season in the Championship. Could be a massive acquisition.

But perhaps their best deal was keeping World Cup star Harry Maguire at the King Power Stadium. His heroics for England caught the attention of some big clubs, with Manchester United in the hunt for his signature.

BIGGEST LOSS
Riyad Mahrez. The Algerian finally got his move to Manchester City and the absence of his mercurial abilities and eye for goal will be sorely missed.

RATING: Mahrez’s exit remains their headline piece of business, but a string of good quality acquisitions will improve the overall quality of a strong squad. B

LIVERPOOL
KEY INS

Naby Keita - RB Leipzig, $93.4m

Fabinho - Monaco, $77.5m

Xherdan Shaqiri - Stoke, $24m

Alisson Becker - Roma, $118m

KEY OUTS
Emre Can - Juventus, free

Harry Wilson - Derby, loan

BEST SIGNING
Goalkeeping has been a perennial issue at Anfield for far too long, and the arrival of Alisson Becker could finally prove the solution that takes them to the next level.

BIGGEST LOSS
Midfielder Emre Can has jetted off to Juventus, he’s grown into a quality midfielder in recent years, but the Reds mightn’t miss him too much considering the arrivals of Fabinho and Keita.

RATING: An incredibly successful window for the Reds, they snared a world class goalkeeper, a quality back-up winger as well as some exceptional midfield reinforcements. A+.

MANCHESTER CITY
KEY INS

Riyad Mahrez - Leicester City, $106m

Daniel Arzani - Melbourne City, free

KEY OUTS
Yaya Toure - released

BEST SIGNING
No prizes for this one. Mahrez is the only big name new arrival at the Etihad this window, and the former Premier League Player of the Year will provide a big boost to their attacking depth.

BIGGEST LOSS
Yaya Toure has been released after eight years at the club, however his influence had diminished in recent seasons – he shouldn’t be too badly missed in a star-studded City midfield.

RATING: Not the big spending window City fans have become accustomed to, but Mahrez should add something to the champions – perhaps more significantly, they haven’t lost any stars. B-

MANCHESTER UNITEDKEY INS
Fred - Shakhtar Donetsk, $94.1m

KEY OUTS
Michael Carrick - retired

Daley Blind - $25.1m

BEST SIGNING
Midfielder Fred arrives from Shakhtar for a big fee, it’s hoped the Brazilian will excel alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in midfield.

BIGGEST LOSS
The retirement of Michael Carrick sees the Red Devils lose one of the most consistent and reliable midfielders in the Premier League. Plus they also missed out on securing the services of a much-needed centre-back, losing out on deals with Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld, Yerry Mina and Jerome Boateng.

RATING: A quiet window by their standards, with Fred the only headline arrival. C

Jack Colback - Nottingham Forest, loan

Massadio Haidara - Lens, free

BEST SIGNING
After an impressive loan spell last season, keeper Martin Dubravka has completed a move to Tyneside. If he picks up where he left off, the deal could be one of the great bargains.

But it’s the much-needed firepower of Salomon Rondon up top that will surely please the Geordie faithful.

BIGGEST LOSS
The Magpies cop a significant loss on 23-year-old defender Chancel Mbemba, who arrived in 2015 amid high hopes. He departs with his massive potential unfulfilled.

RATING Another penny-pinching window leaves fans hugely frustrated and the club with serious worries ahead of the new campaign. D

SOUTHAMPTON
KEY INS

Angus Gunn - Manchester City, undisclosed

Mohamed Elyounoussi - Basel, $28m

Jannik Vestergaard - Borussia Monchengladbach - $31m

Danny Ings - Liverpool, loan

KEY OUTS
Dusan Tadic - Ajax, undisclosed

Jordy Clasie - Feyenoord, loan

BEST SIGNING
After a season that yielded less than a goal a game, Southampton will look to new arrival Mohamed Elyounoussi to add some fire power – he netted 11 goals last season in the Swiss Super League. The last-minute signing of Reds ace Danny Ings on a season-long loan adds the finishing touches to an outstanding Saints forward line.

BIGGEST LOSS
After a quality stint with the Saints, Dusan Tadic has left for Ajax. The Serbian had a knack for scoring important goals, and he’ll need some replacing.

RATING: After a poor season, they’ve spent fairly lavishly in improving their squad at both ends of the park, but some significant outs could cost them. B-

KEY OUTS
Nordin Amrabat - Al-Nassr, undisclosed

Richarlison - Everton, $70.2

BEST SIGNING
The permanent arrival of star loanee Gerard Deulofeu gives them a top class attacking outlet, and the deal represents incredibly good value for money.

BIGGEST LOSS
Highly rated Brazilian Richarlison heads off to Everton after an impressive first season with the Hornets… but his massive transfer fee will soften the blow.

RATING: Another shrewd window sees some useful players arrive without a particularly big investment… and they somehow managed to recoup a stupidly big sum for Richarlison! B+

Felipe Anderson - Lazio, $62.5m

Andriy Yarmolenko - Borussia Dortmund, $31m

Jack Wilshere - Arsenal, free

Issa Diop - Toulouse, $39 million

Carlos Sanchez - Fiorentina, undisclosed

KEY OUTS
Cheikhou Kouyate - Crystal Palace, undisclosed

James Collins - released

BEST SIGNING
Even for a massive $62m, Felipe Anderson represents a huge acquisition for the Hammers. A Brazilian international with a great record in Serie A, he could revolutionise their attack.

BIGGEST LOSS
Fan favourite James Collins’ second stint at the club is over, and his massive presence in defence will be missed.

RATING: After a nightmare season, some excellent signings across the park have fans believing again. Seven new faces have boosted the squad massively.A

WOLVES
KEY INS

Rui Patricio - Sporting Lisbon, undisclosed

Joao Moutinho - Monaco, undisclosed

Leander Dendoncker - Anderlecht, undisclosed

KEY OUTS
Benik Afobe - Stoke, loan

BEST SIGNING
From the World Cup to Wolves, Portuguese keeper Rui Patricio shapes as a potentially season-changing signing. The 30-year-old brings massive experience and will be a safe presence between the sticks.

BIGGEST LOSS
Just 11 days after signing permanently from Bournemouth, Benik Afobe went on loan to Stoke in a baffling piece of business. He’s really the only significantloss.

RATING: Arriving back in the Premier League, they’ve certainly made a statement with their business – international quality stars arrive and look set to spearhead a big return to the top flight. A
