Second-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain was knocked out in the second round of the Royal Guard Open on Wednesday, falling for the second time to Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4.

Robredo, the 2011 champion, had a first-round bye.
Defending champ Horacio Zeballos of Argentina, who beat Rafael Nadal in last year's final, won his first-round match against local wild card Gonzalo Lama 6-3, 6-3.

Fourth-seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain, who had a bye in the first round, took a quick exit with a loss to Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 7-6 (7), 7-6 (2).

Seventh-seeded Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain made the last eight defeating Paolo Lorenzi of Italy 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the clay-court event.

Top-seeded Fabio Fognini of Italy plays on Thursday against Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in a second-round match.
