ZTE should be finally unveiling the long-expected Nubia Z9 during an event scheduled for May 6. So far, the phone has leaked in several images and with almost complete specs, so we already know what to expect.

Or do we? This week brings us some interesting information from China’s certification agency TENAA, which is the Asian version of the FCC. Normally, unannounced smartphones pass through it before being officially made available on the market, so the database is pretty accurate when it comes to specifications.

The ZTE Nubia Z9 was previously said to arrive with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, which is the current standard among flagships. The ASUS ZenFone 2 was the first one to launch with 4GB of RAM, and other device manufacturers like Lenovo and Xiaomi soon followed suit, releasing their own models with the same RAM capacity.

But if we’re to believe what the information spotted on TENNA is telling us, ZTE will be jumping way over the board with its upcoming Nubia Z9, as reported by Gizmo China.

A phone with 8GB of RAM? Could that be possible?

According to the information revealed in the listing, the phone will arrive with a 5.15-inch 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution display and will draw life from an octa-core CPU clocked at 3.5GHz fitted with a staggering 8GB of RAM.

Most likely these are just mistakes and the octa-core processor will ship out with a clock speed of 2.5GHz and probably 3GB of RAM. But who knows what sort of master technology ZTE is working with.

Other specifications apparently include a dual-SIM setup, 18MP/16MP camera combo, and a 3,000 mAh battery to keep things working. Android 5.0 will be the operating system on board and the phone will come with support for GSM, CDMA, TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE, LTE FDD and WCDMA.

Recently, ZTE’s upcoming Nubia Z9 flagship was revealed in a bunch of render images, indicating that the flagship might turn out to be very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (doesn't seem to be the case judging by the TENAA images). Although the phone will probably utilize something different from Sammy’s own curved AMOLED panel technology.

If this turns out to be the case we currently don’t know for sure, but luckily in a few days we won’t have to guess anymore, as the Nubia Z9 flagship will finally go live.
