Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition retail box leaks revealing Snapdragon 660 SoC inside
Last week, we told you that a new Xiaomi phone named the Xiaomi Mi 8X or Mi 8 Youth Edition would be unveiled on September 19th, which happens to be tomorrow. A picture allegedly showing part of the retail box for the handset leaked today, revealing that the device is called the Mi 8 Youth Edition; the specs seen on the box are reportedly for the Taiwan version of the phone. Those specs reveal a notched 6.26-inch display carrying an aspect ratio of 19:9, and a resolution of 1080 x 2280.
Other Specs posted by China's TENAA regulatory agency show that the device features a 3250mAh battery, and will come with 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB/128GB of native storage. The box states that a Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform is under the hood, but TENAA shows the device being powered by the Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform. It turns out that according to one report, the 8GB RAM/128GB storage configuration will have the more powerful Snapdragon 710 SoC under the hood.
While images of the phone show a fingerprint scanner on back, there is talk that one variant (again, perhaps the version with 8GB RAM and 128GB of native storage) will be equipped with a fingerprint scanner embedded under the display. We also expect two gradient color options (Blue-Violent and Twilight Gold) along with a host of other colors to choose from (Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, Silver, Green, and one unnamed hue).
We won't see the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition heading to the U.S., but in those markets currently served by the company, this mid-range model could end up doing well. We should know more about the specs, pricing and availability tomorrow after the phone is officially unannounced.
