Microsoft launched the Windows 10 for phones preview earlier today, but the company shocked everyone when it announced that these early bits of the new OS are actually available only on six Windows Phone models.

But what's even more disappointing is that Microsoft ignored two of its flagships, namely Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520, both of which can't be used to try out Windows 10 for phones right now.

Surprisingly, some of those who spent hundreds of dollars to get one of the two flagships, or even both, didn't even receive Denim, so after months of waiting, none of the two major releases are available on their high-end phones. Microsoft however promises to update both devices as soon as possible, but no details have been provided on when this is expected to happen.

New feature called partition stitching

If you're tired of waiting for Windows Phone updates, you have no other option than to wait a little bit more.

Microsoft says that it's now working on a new feature called partition stitching that changes the way Windows Phones are updated, and this is the reason why the two flagships haven't received the preview builds of Windows 10.

Here's Redmond's full explanation (if it makes any difference given the fact that there are thousands of disappointed Windows Phone users out there):

“We have a feature that will be coming soon called 'partition stitching' which will allow us to adjust the OS partition dynamically to create room for the install process to be able to update the OS in-place. Until this comes in, we needed devices which were configured by mobile operators with sufficiently sized OS partitions to allow the in-place upgrade, and many of the bigger phones have very tight OS partitions.”

As for those who are still on Cyan even though they have a Microsoft flagship, don't worry, the company says that the update will arrive soon. They said the same thing in December, so do not expect any miracle to happen overnight.
