While WhatsApp for Android, iOS, Blackberry and even Tizen has been updated with the capacity to place phone calls, the Windows Phone app has been once again left out in the cold, unattended to.

But in early April, we brought you a report saying that voice calling for Windows Phone would be coming “soon.” We weren’t told the exact amount of time we had to wait, but now, almost two months later, we are finally able to bring you the good news.

As WMPU reports, WhatsApp (Beta) for Windows Phone is getting the much-awaited call feature. Don’t get overly excited yet, because it appears that the feature is being offered only to some users and is not widely available just yet.

According to the information, the latest version of WhatsApp Beta 2.12.38 brings about this functionality on your Windows Phone handset.

Hopefully, the function works without much hassle, so the final WhatsApp for Windows Phone application gets one more step closer to completion.
Voice calling for WhatsApp on Windows Phone gets spotted

There’s no official ETA for the end-user implementation for the time being, but it shouldn’t be too long before the general public is able to take advantage of some long-awaited native WhatsApp VoIP functionality.

But the WhatsApp for Windows Phone saga hasn’t been a smooth one. Users have been complaining for a year about the quality of the WhatsApp Messenger application on their devices. The problems range from not receiving messages, not being notified about them, to not being able to send large-sized videos through the app.

Although WhatsApp has recently come up with a fix for the latter problem.

Windows Phone users being last to get a new function or an application is not an uncommon occurrence. It’s customary for developers to launch their apps on Android and iOS first, and then, if they consider it’s worth spending the time and money, on Windows Phone platform.

For example, the Windows Phone Store doesn’t have a Snapchat app yet, and it took forever for Instagram to make it to the platform. But the application is still in beta mode, so it might be a while until users are allowed to take advantage of it in full.
