Samsung Display unveiled its ‘unbreakable’ OLED panel earlier this week that featured a plastic substrate. Moreover, the company also claimed that the plastic OLED panel was UL-Certified which had managed to cope and survive multiple drops. The display did not show any sign of damage, so that’s a major plus and a proud moment for the company. To further assure the industry that its OLED display is tough, Samsung Display has uploaded a new video on YouTube. The video shows how the display is being hammered by a rubber mallet. Let’s check it out in a bit more detail.

Samsung’s Plastic OLED Panel Survives Hammering – Truly Unbreakable

While the video is in Korean, English subtitles are available for your understanding. The plastic substrate OLED panel is definitely amazing given that it has survived the hammer test. Moreover, the beating given were not light. The video is also a proof of how strong the OLED panels are with a plastic window. Probably in the near future, the plastic window panels will be a norm judging on the bases of their strong nature.

Even though Samsung is bragging its plastic window OLED panels, we do have to note that the Korean tech giant is not the sole provider of the tech. Companies like LG and Motorola have also previously experimented with more or less the same thing to improve the panel’s strength. However, a plastic window would have its own drawbacks compared to the glass version.

For instance, the plastic window OLED panels would be a lot easier to scratch compared to glass. Other than this, while the durability is enhanced, it does directly regress the performance. Samsung’s plastic OLED panels will probably be incorporated in the company’s foldable phones. The only thing to ensure is the quality and performance.
