Even though it’s still largely seen as a niche market, 360-degree cameras cough up some interesting perspectives when it comes to capturing and sharing content. There are traditional 360-degree cameras, but then there’s the Vuze XR, which is a camera on steroids. That’s because it doesn’t only capture content in 360-degrees with its two cameras, but one push of a button transforms it into a 180-degree 3D camera as well!

From a quick glance, it looks just like any other 360-degree camera on the market – much like the popular Samsung Gear 360, but with more substance with its construction and size. Over on the specs side, the Vuze XR offers a convincing package featuring dual 12MP Sony IMX-378 sensors, 6-axis gyro for better stabilization, 1,200 mAh battery, and a microSD card slot. When it comes to shooting video, it offers modes at 5.7K at 30 FPS, 4K at 60 FPS, and 4K at 30 FPS. On its own, it’s quite a capable 360-degree camera.

Adding to its arsenal is its ability to capture 3D 180-degree content, which is achieved when you press the button on unit to flip out its two cameras, so that they’re side-by-side to one another – offering that stereoscopic 3D visual when viewing content on a VR headset of some kind. Using the Vuze XR app, you’ll be able to connect to the camera and see your content in real time! We tried it out and we have to say that the 3D 180-degree capture does add a little bit of diversity from an otherwise typical 360-degree experience. Even though 3D 180-degree content isn’t as diverse at the moment, it’s comforting to know that the Vuze XR is ahead of the curve.

If you’re willing to experiment, we’re fairly confident that you’ll be able to produce some unique content with the Vuze XR. Considering that it’s slapped with a $439 price, it’s not too shabby considering that other notable models in the space right now, like the Instax360 One X, GoPro Fusion, and Ricoh Theta V all pretty much sell for about the same price. However, you’re getting that extra ability to capture 3D 180-degree content with the Vuze XR – something that the competition can’t do for now!
