CAD-based renders of the Nokia 6.2 (Nokia 8.1 Plus)

Five days ago, renders of an upcoming Nokia-branded smartphone were published online. At the time, the device was referred to as the Nokia 8.1 Plus. But according to one reliable tipster, the device will actually launch as the Nokia 6.2. And, to be honest, it all makes perfect sense.

Shortly after the smartphone renders were published, an alleged Nokia 6.2 spec sheet leaked out online. This pointed towards a large 6.2-inch display complete with a punch-hole design, two details that coincide perfectly with the leaked device. Additionally, a dual-camera setup on the rear complete with ZEISS branding was mentioned, a feature which is also present on the leaked device and should allow for a significant boost in image quality over the current-gen Nokia 6.1.

To further back these claims up, last month HMD Global executives revealed that no further devices would be launched with the “Plus” branding which has been in use for the past year. The reason for this decision wasn’t specified at the time but the move could help create a more simplified branding strategy.

As stated by the source of this tip, the Snapdragon 632-powered Nokia 6.2 is currently expected to make its global debut at MWC 2019 in Barcelona later next month. This could be joined by the flagship Nokia 9 PureView if recent rumors are to be believed.
