The Chive launched its official application for Windows Phone a few days ago, and many users rushed to give it a try and access the content posted on one of the most popular photo blogs out there.

The only problem, however, is that the app, called “theCHIVE – Probably the best app in the world,” is causing quite a lot of issues on Windows Phone devices out there, including some that are preventing users from locking their smartphones.

These issues were first reported by WindowsCentral, that notes that the power button fails to work properly after installing theCHIVE app on various Lumia phone models.

In most of the cases, the power button no longer works as expected and doesn’t seem to react to user input. At the same time, some users claim that the quick toggles disappeared from their notification center and setting them up once again doesn’t make any difference.

Remove the app or hard reset the phone

At this point, the only way to deal with the problem is to remove the app completely from your Windows Phone device and reboot.

We’ve experienced the same issues on our Lumia 930 test unit, and after uninstalling the app, everything went back to normal. However, we’ve received reports that in some cases, hard resetting the phone is the only way to address this issue, so make sure that you also take this option into account.

A small number of users also report that theCHIVE client breaks a few other apps, such as those creating status tiles on the home screen, but we can’t yet confirm whether this is a widespread issue or not.

There’s no workaround provided by developers, so nobody can tell for sure what’s wrong with the app, but some speculate that it’s all because of the keep awake function of the built-in browser.

Ironically, they call it “the best app in the world”

theCHIVE app was launched a few days ago, and ironically, the developing team that created it called the official client “the best app in the world.”

Judging by the number of complaints, however, theCHIVE app is causing more harm than good on users’ devices, so until we hear from the parent company or get an update to address all problems that could be experienced, it’s better to stay away from it.

Right now, there are several alternative The Chive clients in the Windows Phone and you can also browse the photo blog using Internet Explorer, so you don’t actually need the official app to check out their content.
