Earlier today we’ve been telling you that Samsung is poised to roll out the Android 5.1 update for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge flagships sometime in the near future.

The update is said to bring back the “Guest Mode,” a feature that has been included into Android ever since version 4.2 Jelly Bean made it out into the wild.

Sources familiar with the matter were able to play with an extremely early and yet unstable Android 5.1 build for the Galaxy S6 Edge and found that Guest Mode worked as it should.

Anyway, a few hours after this report was spotted into the wild, we received word that the T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge was apparently receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA goes out to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

A user writing on the xda-developer forums claims he received an OTA update just a few hours ago, which bumped the software version of his Galaxy S6 Edge to Android 5.1.1. He also uploaded a video showing the flagship device running Google’s latest version of Lollipop, and you can check it out for yourself towards the end of this article.

As noted by the user, the update will lock the bootloader on the device.

The very first news indicating that Google was working towards bringing Android 5.1.1 into our lives surfaced online earlier this month. The new build was spotted in Google’s own Android audio latency info page running on the Nexus 7 and Nexus 9, so we assumed the two tablets would receive the update soon enough. This hasn't happened yet until this day, though.

Nevertheless, Google has started rolling out the update, and the first recipient of the new software is none other than the Nexus Player.

So far, only the Nexus Player received Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

A factory image of Android 5.1.1 (LMY47V) for the Android TV box has already been made available by Google and owners of the device can go ahead and download it, if they want.

It’s not unusual to see Nexus devices pick up the latest updates released by Google, but we have to admit that it’s a bit strange that the Nexus Player is getting Android 5.1.1 ahead of the horde. And now, the Galaxy S6 Edge is trumping phones like the Nexus 6 or Nexus 5.
