Unless you're Rip Van Winkle or a Luddite, you know that this morning Google unveiled the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. And not surprisingly, T-Mobile's Desmond Smith, the carrier's Director of Creative Content, already has taken both phones out into the real world for one of his trademark unboxing videos. Along with Susana Suarez, Des went on a road trip with the new handsets and the first thing that we see is the new UI for Google Assistant. Not only does it take up less real estate on the screen, it also is faster on the Pixel 4 because the virtual helper now resides on-device.

Smith and Suarez drove up to the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington, approximately a two-hour drive from T-Mobile's headquarters near Seattle. During the drive, we get to see a brief demonstration of Motion Sense. This is the feature that uses Google's radar-based Soli chip to control certain aspects of the phone with hand gestures. While Google is sure to add to Motion Sense's capabilities, right now it can be used to skip through streaming content, dismiss alarms and silence phone calls.

The pair stop to test out the Pixel's camera, which this year features a pair of sensors for the first time. Besides the usual 12.2MP wide camera (which has a wider f/1.6 aperture to allow more light in), there is a 16MP telephoto camera with hybrid zoom. And when they arrive at the destination, the phones are unboxed. Inside the box, besides the phone, is a Quick Switch adapter which moves over to the new Pixel the photos, contacts and apps from the Android phone being retired. And there is also an 18W adapter in the box for fast charging.

Smith and Suarez hung around until the sun went down, which was the signal for them to show off the Pixel's second generation version of Night Sight. Thanks to a longer exposure option, those with a phone from the Pixel 4 family can shoot amazing photos of the night sky, including the stars.

T-Mobile is taking pre-orders for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL starting at 12:20 am EDT Wednesday morning (9:20 pm PDT Tuesday night) according to the carrier's website. And as we told you earlier today, the wireless provider does have a special Pixel trade-in offer that can net you a free Pixel 4 if you hand over an older Pixel model and switch to T-Mobile.
