Joining the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra that were both announced back in January, Sony has quietly taken the wraps off of the new Xperia XA2 Plus which appears to be just a slightly modified version of the XA2 Ultra.

Externally, perhaps the biggest change is the presence of a new 18:9 display panel that retains the same 6-inch diameter seen on the Ultra model. However, due to the new aspect ratio, the XA2 Plus sees a reduction in both height and width, thus resulting in a smartphone that’s easier to hold. Also, Sony has equipped the device with a slightly more premium build that replaces the previous plastic rear with a new aluminum panel. Just like the Ultra variant, though, positioned just above the circular fingerprint scanner is a single rear camera which sports a resolution of 23-megapixels. On the selfie side of things, though, a pretty major downgrade seems to have taken place. After all, the dual-camera setup seen on the Xperia XA2 Ultra has been replaced by a single 8-megapixel sensor.

Regardless of these external details, the differences between the two devices are virtually unnoticeable when it comes to the internal side of things. Starting off with the processor, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 can be found powering the device along with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Additionally, Sony is once again offering the choice of 32GB or 64GB of internal storage depending on the user’s preference, although this is further expandable via a microSD slot. On a final note, it’s worth noting that Android 8.0 Oreo will be making a return straight out of the box alongside the same 3,580mAh power pack complete with Quick Charge 3.0 support.

As of now, Sony is yet to confirm the official pricing of its latest mid-range offering, although it will be available in Black, Silver, Gold, and Green upon its release in August in Europe.
