While some companies (Google, Essential) have already rolled out Android 9.0 Pie for its phones, the rest are trying to figure out when to make the update available for their customers. HTC recently announced which phones will get the Pie update and now Sony is making some clarifications as well.

For those of you using Xperia smartphones, here are the first six devices that Sony plans to update to Android 9 Pie: Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and Xperia XZ Premium.

According to Sony Mobile, Android 9 Pie updates will start dropping starting in September, which means that some of these phones may actually get updated near the end of the year. Well, not quite, since the Japanese company said that the last phones will get updated to Pie in November, which is quite impressive.

Meanwhile, lots of other handset manufacturers are gearing up for Android 9 Pie roll-outs, including OnePlus, HMD Global, Huawei, Oppo, and Vivo. Although this paints a rather encouraging picture for the future of Android 9 Pie, it remains to be seen how fast these major OS update will actually be released.
