The big day has finally arrived, ladies and gents, but Samsung has a number of reasons to fear Galaxy Note 9 sales figures will not live up to recent hype. For one thing, there are a lot of exciting high-end handsets right around the corner, including three “all-screen” iPhones and a Huawei Mate 20 Pro with a triple rear camera arrangement, flexible OLED panel, huge battery, and in-display fingerprint recognition technology.

The weak box office performance of the Galaxy S9 duo is another major cause for concern, especially considering all the similarities between the Note 9 and GS9+. Last but not least, it may not help that the device set to be formally unveiled later today has been so thoroughly leaked, including by Samsung itself.

Thus, Korean media is reporting “last-minute measures” are being pursued to “boost sales of the new phones.” One such measure will apparently see the Galaxy Note 9 kick off regional pre-orders one day earlier than previously planned, although it’s unclear if actual deliveries and physical sales in brick and mortar stores are also scheduled to begin early.

Obviously, one day isn’t going to make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things, but Samsung seems willing to try anything to maximize the Note 9’s appeal. Time is of the essence when we’ve known everything there was to know about the phone for a while now, and it might be crucial to sell as many units as possible before the new iPhone trio sees daylight.

Following today’s announcement, Galaxy Note 9 pre-orders could be underway as early as Sunday, August 12, in Korea, with local carriers likely to “embark on receiving reservations” on Monday. If history is any indication, US carriers should follow a similar timetable, with availability then expected on or around August 24.
